Extend the Life of Your iPhone 6 Plus with a 128GB Memory Upgrade

An iPhone storage upgrade is a hardware-level modification that replaces the original NAND flash chip (storage chip) with a higher-capacity one. In this video, we’re upgrading the iPhone 6 Plus from 16GB to 128GB.

Unlike adding an SD card, this is a deep-level repair involving micro-soldering, chip programming, and system reinstallation. When done correctly, the phone runs like new—with significantly more storage space.

Upgrading From 16GB to 128GB

After years of frustration with limited storage, I finally decided to take a bold step: upgrading my iPhone 6 Plus to 128GB.

Here’s what the process looked like:

Step 1: Disassembly

I unscrewed the two tiny screws at the bottom and carefully separated the screen from the frame.

Step 2: Removing the Mainboard

The logic board was carefully taken out. This tiny board holds the original 16GB NAND chip.

Step 3: Cleaning & Reballing

Next, I cleaned off the black adhesive from the solder pads and reballed a brand-new 128GB NAND flash chip.
This is the most delicate step—precision is everything.

Step 4: Installing the New Chip

The 128GB NAND chip was soldered back onto the board.
Every alignment and every connection tested the limits of precision soldering.

Step 5: System Restore

The board was reinstalled, the device was reassembled, and the system was refreshed using iTunes or 3uTools. Once powered on, it showed a glorious 128GB of available storage!

Important Note: Not for DIY Beginners

This kind of iPhone storage expansion requires professional tools and advanced microsoldering skills. Attempting it without experience could damage your device permanently.

We recommend having this done by certified technicians or reliable iPhone repair centers with NAND flash upgrade experience.

After the Upgrade: What You Should Know

  • Your phone will function just like a native 128GB model

  • iOS updates remain supported

  • iCloud backup and restore work normally

  • Performance remains stable if the chip is of high quality

Many repair shops also recommend replacing the battery at the same time for a full internal refresh.

A storage upgrade from 16GB to 128GB doesn’t just improve performance—it extends the value and usability of your iPhone 6 Plus. If you're not ready to part with your old device, this could be the best way to keep it relevant and powerful in 2025 and beyond.

If this article doesn't solve your iPhone storage issue, you can consider a professional memory upgrade to expand your device’s capacity.
